Technological Futures in and beyond the Anthropocene: A Dialogue with Chen Qiufan
From e-waste recycling to carbon neutrality, and from space leeks to AI climate governance, the science fiction of Chen Qiufan invites us to imagine posthuman futures where technology and ecology are mutually constitutive. Given that the planetary crisis warrants long-term sociocultural change rather than short-term techno-fixes, science fiction plays a powerful role in shaping our understanding of emerging techno-environmental dynamics. This conversation focuses on how science fiction helps us explore new conceptual scenarios and speculative ethics, and asks what Indigenous and non-Western epistemologies might contribute to alternative technological futures in and beyond the Anthropocene.
