CULTURE & TRANSFORMATIONS
We believe culture is change, and transformation shapes us. We seek to connect with others and cross over boundaries with a focus on critical humanities and everyday life, so that we may explore new ways of seeing our lives in flux. Founded in 1990, our Humanities Programme in the Department of Humanities & Creative Writing includes scholars and writers who engage in all manner of interdisciplinary perspectives on culture, including cultural studies, food studies, gender studies, literary studies, media studies, and philosophy.
Creative Works
With award-winning Chinese and English-language writers on staff, the Department of Humanities & Creative Writing is home to Hong Kong’s first and only bilingual Creative and Professional Writing Programme. We collaborate with local artists and arts organizations to advance the cultural life of citizens through civic engagement. Our practice-led research, in the form of plays, poems, novels, short stories, and song lyrics, enriches the literary arts in Hong Kong and advances our understanding of the world around us.
